Sr. Philomina Mathew was elected the Superior General on 28 January 2012, during the VIII General Chapter and was re-elected on 27 January 2018, during the IX General Chapter held at MSMHC Generalate, Hatigaon, Guwahati. Her term of office marks a significant period of growth and expansion in the Congregation, particularly to overseas mission. She is known for having played a vital role for the cause of the Founder from the start of its process. It was during her time that the cause of the Founder was speeded up and the Church witnessed the event of having declared him venerable on 3 March 2016 by Pope Francis.
Sr. Philomina received her Licentiate in Missiology at the Urbaniana Universtiy, Rome and a Doctorate in Missiology from St. Peter`s Pontifical Institute of Theology, Bangalore.
As the Superior General, she exercises her authority, assisted by her council, always in conformity with Canon Law and the Institute’s own law. Her main concern is to preserve the charism and spirit of the congregation and promote unity among the sisters.She serves the Congregation by animating, guiding, coordinating, inspiring and encouraging the sisters to be faithful to their vocation and mission. She provides leadership in the congregation. She is the guardian of the constitutions and traditions, and is the spokesperson of the congregation.
